New JMC Grand Avenue combines family comfort with 4x4 capability

Salvador Caetano South Africa has announced the arrival of the JMC Grand Avenue, a new double-cab bakkie aimed at the leisure and family market.

The Grand Avenue is available through the JMC dealership network and is positioned as the manufacturer's flagship double-cab model, combining off-road capability with a range of comfort and technology features. Measuring 5.45 metres long, 1.94 metres wide and up to 1.9 metres high, the bakkie has a large cabin and cargo bed.

Its exterior features a large front grille and integrated lighting system, while practical features include rear doors that open to 75 degrees, a standard tailgate-assist system and a wear-resistant coating for the load bed. Rear parking sensors and a reversing camera are also fitted.

Cabin and technology - The Grand Avenue has a black interior with leather seats and wood-effect finishes on the centre console and door panels.

The dashboard features a 12.3-inch tilting infotainment touchscreen, which can be adjusted by up to 12 degrees to either side. It supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) reduction technology, together with an acoustic windscreen, is designed to reduce cabin noise. The rear seatbacks can also be folded to increase storage space.

Performance and off-road capability - The bakkie is powered by an engine producing 155 kW of maximum power and 500 Nm of peak torque, paired with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission.

Four-wheel-drive models use a part-time 4x4 system developed by BorgWarner and have a claimed wading depth of 800mm. The vehicle uses double-wishbone front suspension and a reinforced longitudinal frame designed to increase torsional stiffness. The Grand Avenue has a maximum towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes. The manufacturer claims fuel consumption of 7.2 litres per 100km and carbon dioxide emissions of 196g/km.

Safety and pricing - Safety features include four-wheel disc brakes, anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) and electronic stability programme (ESP).

The Grand Avenue is covered by a five-year/100,000km service plan and a five-year/200,000km warranty.
