MTC announced the commencement of the MTC 4 Life 2026 project, an initiative aimed at equipping young Namibians with practical skills and entrepreneurial tools to build sustainable livelihoods.

This year, the programme will focus on empowering 30 youth from the ǁKharas Region, targeting self-employed and unemployed individuals between the ages of 18 and 35. The 2026 cycle is scheduled to begin in April and will be rolled out in collaboration with regional stakeholders to ensure that the selected youth derive maximum benefit from the programme.

“MTC looks forward to working closely with partners in the ǁKharas Region to ensure the successful implementation of this year’s programme. MTC 4 Life continues to reflect MTC’s commitment to youth empowerment and community development. By investing in practical skills and entrepreneurship, the initiative helps strengthen local economies while creating real opportunities for young people to shape their own futures,” said MTC Chief Brand, Marketing, Communications, and Sustainability Officer Tim Ekandjo.

Hands-on training: The initiative seeks to address youth unemployment by providing hands-on vocational training combined with basic business development support. The programme is designed to move participants from dependency to self-reliance by equipping them with both the technical skills and the financial foundation needed to begin earning an income.

Participants will undergo seven days of intensive practical training in selected trades, including hairdressing, barbering, baking, leatherwork, sewing, and cell phone repair. Each trade will accommodate up to five trainees or more, ensuring focused mentorship and skills transfer. Beyond training, beneficiaries will receive starter toolkits relevant to their chosen trade, as well as a seed grant of N$5 000 each to assist them in launching or expanding their micro-enterprises.

Ekandjo highlighted that the programme reflects MTC’s broader commitment to national development. “We aim to invest in initiatives that change lives, empower youth, and contribute to building a Namibia that future generations can be proud of. Programmes like MTC 4 Life are about creating real opportunities and enabling young people to shape their own futures.”
