Seven track (four) and field (three) records were shattered at the Lüderitz Secondary School interhouse athletics meet in the harbour town on Saturday.

Alejandro Manka was named the top-performing male athlete at the event. Manka, who competes in the 14-15 age group for boys, broke two records. The Team Red athlete broke the shotput record with a throw of 11.06 metres and also improved the discus record with a throw of 34.90 metres. 

The previous shotput record of 11.20 metres was established by Angelo Ratz in 2022, and Lenito Losper held the previous discus record, established in 2020. 

Tuyenikel Ndemupaopdaka, also of team Red, was named the top-performing female athlete. Ndemupaopdaka, with her time of 5 minutes and 48.36 seconds, broke the 1500-metre run record of 6:01.25 for the girls aged 14-15, established by Selma Absalom in 2018. 

Leena Andonyo, of team Blue, set a new record of 1.50 m in the high jump item for girls aged 16-17. Sunday Johannes held the previous record of 1.30 m set in 2024. Dennis Sylvester of Team Red finished the 1500-metre run for boys aged 14-15 in a time of 5 minutes and 23.1 seconds, breaking the record of 5:24.37 set by Santos Ashipla in 2018.

Immanuel Nhugamenwa, of team Blue, with his time of 25.25 seconds, shattered the 200m dash record of 25.63 established by Lennox Muluundu in 2025.

The 800-metre run for boys aged 14-15 produced three record-breaking performances. Johannes Shaduka of team Yellow finished first in a time of 2 minutes and 24.88 seconds and shattered the record of 2:33.55 established by Ronald Oppel in 2022. Sylvester (Team Red) finished second with a time of 2:28.72, and Eino Sebulon of Team Yellow finished in third position with a time of 2:33.23. 

Team Red collected 53 medals (24 gold, 19 silver and 10 bronze) and won the competition held at the Lüderitz Stadium. Team Yellow took the second spot with 37 medals (13 gold, 12 silver and 12 bronze). Team Blue finished third with 30 medals (12 gold, 8 silver and 10 bronze). 

The Zonals will be in Rosh Pinah on 28 February, the Regionals on 14 March in Keetmanshoop, and the Nationals will take place in April in Swakopmund.
