The search for Kaylee Hulme (12), who was swept away into the ocean by the Orange River on 7 January, is still ongoing.
“The search is not over, and members and volunteers from neighbouring South Africa have joined in the search to find her. Her parents, Michelle and Chris Hulme, are devastated and are pleading for The community to assist. Her mother’s only request is to have her little girl brought home,” said Saun Naude in an update provided on the NamStrong WhatsApp Group on 20 January.
Kaylee went missing at around 11:00 whilst swimming with her brother, and her dad was fishing. The strong river current carried her away, and she has been missing since. Many volunteers and those fishing on the day stopped what they were doing to search for the young girl. She has not been found despite extensive efforts from officials and volunteers and days of searching.
According to Naude, it is difficult to determine how far Kaylee’s body may have travelled due to the strong flow of the river. “We kindly ask anyone in the area, especially fishermen and people along the river, the ocean, or the beach, to please keep a lookout,” he said.
