“The Mitsubishi Destinator was specifically designed for emerging markets, including South Africa, with a strong focus on quality and value for money and we are excited to bring this new model to market,” says Lerato Nonyane, General Manager: Product & Marketing at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA).

The Mitsubishi Destinator is an all-new seven-seater family SUV that has been crafted to indulge families with premium styling, plush comfort and sophisticated features that will ensure that every drive is as grand as the destination itself. “The all-new Mitsubishi Destinator is unique in the manner in which it combines SUV ability, with MPV practicality in its own way, positioning itself as the ideal companion for South African motorists looking for a do it all adventure companion,” says Nonyane.

Monolithic exterior design - The all-new Destinator features a unique, modern design that pays homage to iconic Mitsubishi styling elements. The exterior design incorporates strength and sophistication and a modern SUV presence.

The front end is dominated by a new take on Mitsubishi’s characteristic dynamic shield design along with a transparent grille that features a smoked finish along with a metallic backing. T-shaped LED headlights front and rear combine with daylight running lights, position and turn signals in one bold design that enhances safety and adds a wide, modern look. Powerful fender cuts ensure a muscular SUV stance and house bold 18-inch alloy wheels that add a touch of style and performance The rear end is clean and robust and home to sleek LED tail lights that wrap around the D pillar and flow seamlessly into the large tailgate.

Everyday interior practicality - Inside, the Destinator features seating for seven passengers across three rows. The seating is infinitely configurable to suite family or loading needs with the second and third rows able to be adjusted via a 40:20:40 split or a 50:50 split respectively.

In addition, 25 innovative storage spaces are ready to swallow everything that a family needs on a daily basis or for a holiday adventure. The interior has been designed around the themes Gravitas and Dynamism and is characterised by a monolithic display, sound ergonomics and intuitive tech at your fingertips. “The all-new Mitsubishi Destinator features a spacious interior, with excellent ride comfort that ensures a relaxed driving experience for all occupants as well as an extremely high level of standard equipment that ensures that it ticks all the right boxes in this department,” explains Nonyane.

Exceed models feature a large 12.3-inch Smartphone-link Display audio system that is paired with an eight-inch digital driver display, resulting in a sleek integrated panel that displays vehicle info and entertainment clearly and intuitively. The Dynamic Sound Yamaha Premium audio system fitted to Exceed derivatives transforms the cabin with rich, live-performance quality sound for a more exciting and comfortable drive.

Creature comforts include a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic air-conditioning, a console tray with wireless charger, console side pocket for both driver and passenger and a seatback table.

Customisable 65 colour ambient lighting in five locations enhances the cabins spacious feel and sets the perfect mood for every journey. A hands-free power tailgate can be opened or closed with a simple foot motion. A memory height function and anti-pinch safety system add everyday convenience.

A well-performing, efficient powertrain - The all-new Mitsubishi Destinator is powered by a refined iteration of the engine that does duty in the popular Eclipse Cross.

This 4B40 Gen 2 engine features numerous enhancements including a next generation cooling system that utilises a water cooled intercooler. These enhancements have contributed to improved fuel efficiency and more powerful acceleration. The 1.5-litre MIVEC turbocharged, four-cylinder petrol engine, offers 120kW at 5 000rpm and 250Nm between 2 500 and 4 000rpm. Power is sent to the front wheels courtesy of a continuously variable transmission (CVT), delivering smooth and responsive power with finely tuned control for all road surfaces. The Mitsubishi Destinator will use just 7.2 litres per 100km and is equipped with a 45-litre fuel tank, ensuring an impressive range.

The powertrain offers a compelling balance of performance, efficiency, torque and driving dynamics. Exceed derivatives are also equipped with five driving modes that have been designed to optimise traction and control. Normal, Wet, Gravel, Mud and Tarmac tailor power delivery for the surface underfoot. Each mode has been finely tuned through extensive testing to ensure outstanding driving performance and overwhelming confidence for each specific road surface. These modes are ready to assist owners in navigating weekday traffic or escaping the city for weekend getaways, with the engineering to tackle any adventure.

Confident SUV capability - Ensuring outstanding ride quality and passenger comfort is a MacPherson strut front suspension layout in conjunction with a torsion beam rear suspension configuration.

The all-new Destinator features class-leading ground clearance of 214mm along with favourable approach, ramp break-over and departure angles of 21.0 degrees, 20.8 degrees and 25.5 degrees respectively, allowing motorists to navigate rough terrain with remarkable ease and precision. Mitsubishi Motors have borrowed off-road technology from iconic models such as the Lancer Evolution to bolster the off-road ability of the Destinator, including Active Yaw Control which ensures safe and confident handling on a variety of surfaces. Active Yaw Control is a component of Mitsubishi’s AWC technology which was first developed for the innovative Lancer Evolution.

Advanced safety systems as standard - Safety is top class thanks to the fitment of the latest active and passive technology, driver assistance systems and ADAS technology as well as six airbags.

This equipment saw the Destinator earn a maximum five-star rating in the 2025 ASEAN NCAP testing regime, a comprehensive safety performance assessment program for new vehicles in the ASEAN region.

Two well-equipped derivatives - The Mitsubishi Destinator will be offered in two derivatives, wearing Exceed and GLS badging.

GLS models are comprehensively equipped with equipment and finishes that include an 8-inch Smartphone link Display audio system, rearview camera, parking sensors, electric parking brake with auto hold, steering wheel controls, USB charging ports and air-conditioning vents in all three rows, a six-speaker sound system and a fabric interior.
