A delegation led by the Commander of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF), Major General Aktofel Nambahu, held a strategic consultation session with the Karasburg Town Council (KTC) regarding the planned expansion of the military base in the southern town.
During the engagement on 9 March, Major General Nambahu informed KTC that approximately 400 soldiers are expected to be deployed to Karasburg starting possibly on 29 April 2026. This will result in significant development opportunities for the town and the region as a whole.
The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between the NDF and KTC to ensure the smooth implementation of planned developments. Key areas of cooperation highlighted during the consultation include the expansion and upgrading of the existing military base. The development of sports facilities that may benefit both the military and the local community, the establishment of a shooting range and the development and improvement of an airstrip were also discussed.
KTC welcomed the initiative, saying, “The deployment of soldiers and development of infrastructure will have a positive economic and social impact on Karasburg by creating opportunities for local businesses, service providers, and the development of the community.
