The Office of the Hardap Governor has stepped up its relief work in the region, supporting several families in need.

In talks with residents, the fate of Johanna also became known; she is caring under difficult conditions for the disabled child of her late sister. The family lived in a poorly built corrugated-iron shelter that offered hardly any protection during the rainy season.

To improve the situation, Governor Riaan McNab intervened through the Cash for Work program. In place of the old dwelling, a safer corrugated-iron shelter was built, offering better protection from rain and bad weather. Skilled workers from the region were also employed for the construction. McNab thanked the Office of the Prime Minister for its support and emphasized that development can succeed only through joint action and compassion.

In another outreach visit, the governor and his staff visited a family mourning the death of 13-year-old Kondjeni. The pupil, captain of his hockey team and described as a promising boy, died from an electric shock. The delegation expressed its condolences to his mother, Emmerencia, and her relatives, and offered support and comfort during the difficult time.

There was also help for older people in Gibeon. There, two seniors received new corrugated-iron houses under the same program, each costing N$12,500. Together with the Gibeon town council, the buildings were also connected to electricity. In addition, the Office of the Governor and the town council presented food parcels. For the two beneficiaries, this means more than just a roof over their heads—namely security, dignity, and renewed hope ahead of winter.

The relief program is continuing. In the coming days, McNab plans to hand over a third house to another elderly person in Takarania near Mariental.
