The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) has issued a public safety alert ahead of the Easter long weekend, warning of a potential rise in criminal activities and increased traffic volumes across the country.
In a statement released by Head of Public Relations, P. K. Shikwambi, the festive period widely observed through religious gatherings and family travel is often accompanied by heightened risks. Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures to avoid falling victim to crime.
Shikwambi, noted that criminals frequently target valuable personal belongings, cash, and unsuspecting individuals through fraudulent schemes, particularly those involving unsolicited communications.
Motorists have also been cautioned to expect congestion on major routes as travel activity intensifies. Drivers are advised to plan their journeys in advance, remain patient, maintain a sober mindset, and strictly adhere to all road traffic laws.
NamPol has assured the public that it will intensify crime prevention operations nationwide. This includes increased patrols and the deployment of mobile roadblocks aimed at ensuring the safety and security of all road users and communities during the Easter period.
