National Cancer Awareness Week

The first week of August marks National Cancer Awareness Week, a time to reflect on the burden of cancer in Namibia and encourage people to play a role in prevention, early detection, equitable access to treatment and compassionate support for those affected. The Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN) has chosen to focus this year's campaign on cervical cancer and the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). "CAN Namibia has deliberately chosen to focus on cervical cancer and the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), a disease and virus that remain widely misunderstood despite being among the few cancers that can largely be prevented," said CAN Chief Executive Officer Rolf Hansen. Hansen said every woman deserved the opportunity to live a healthy and productive life, and every family deserved the chance to prevent a disease that should no longer claim so many mothers, daughters, sisters and friends. "Despite ongoing efforts, cervical cancer remains one of Namibia's greatest cancer challenges," he said. Source CAN
