The //Kharas Regional Council has called on prospective students who face financial constraints to apply for funding assistance to cover registration fees for institutions of higher learning for the 2026 academic year.
In a public notice issued on 20 January, the council invited young people in the region planning to register in 2026 to submit applications for financial assistance at their respective constituency offices.
Primus Iininga, the control administrative officer for the ǃNamiǂNûs constituency, confirmed the call. He added that the scheme targets applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds. The assistance is aimed at young people eligible to register at institutions of higher learning, he said, adding: "Take note that we do not cover persons who want to qualify for free education or subsidised education with this initiative.”
Iininga said the requirements are not strict and are intended to make it easier to shortlist applicants. “We know our people, and we know what they need. The requirements have been put down to identify and to make it easy to shortlist applicants," he said.
Applicants must be residents of Lüderitz or Aus and submit a letter requesting financial assistance. They are also required to provide an admission letter from an NQA-accredited institution, as well as certified copies of their identity document and voters’ card, he said. The deadline for submitting applications is 4 February.
Do it now - Applications can be forwarded to the constituent's office via email at iprimus.carasrc.gov.na or physically delivered to the respective constituency offices in Lüderitz, Bersheba (081 858 3779), Keetmanshoop (081 214 4996 / 081 237 9680), Oranjemund (081 165 6747) and Karasburg (081 354 2234 / 081 219 8569).
Iininga urged interested applicants to submit their applications before the deadline. “Do not wait until the last minute," he said. He confirmed that over 10 applications have been received so far. "What impressed me is that many youth came asking for more information. This means more applications will come through."
