Namdeb brings first career fair to learners in Oranjemund

Namdeb hosted its inaugural Career Fair in collaboration with the ǁKharas Regional Council and the Directorate of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture in Oranjemund on 17 and 18 July 2026.

The event brought together professionals, educational institutions and industry representatives to showcase a wide range of career opportunities, with a strong emphasis on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM). It formed part of Namdeb's commitment to helping young people make informed career choices.

Participating schools included Oranjemund Private School, CambriLearn Tutor Centre, Ambrosius Amutenya Primary School, !Garibams Secondary School and Tsau //Khaeb Secondary School from Rosh Pinah. Learners engaged directly with professionals and gained insight into the qualifications, skills and career paths available across a range of industries.

Previously, learners in Oranjemund had to travel to larger centres, such as Windhoek, to attend career fairs. By hosting the event locally, Namdeb made career guidance more accessible while supporting the development of future talent in the region.

Opening the event, Namdeb Organisational Effectiveness and Talent Manager Charity Jeftha said career awareness should begin at grassroots level. "Namdeb believes career awareness should begin at grassroots level, ensuring that young people have the opportunity to explore possibilities and discover where their interests and talents may fit within the world of work." 

Jeftha said the workplace of the future would require more than technical expertise. "Future-ready professionals will be those who embrace lifelong learning, think critically, solve complex problems, communicate effectively, collaborate across cultures and use technology responsibly. Technical knowledge will always matter, but uniquely human skills such as creativity, resilience, emotional intelligence and ethical leadership will become even more valuable."

ǁKharas Regional School Counsellor Alexio Pienaar welcomed the initiative, saying it would help learners make informed decisions about their future careers.

Road safety initiative – As part of its community outreach programme, Namdeb also donated reflector bands to Ambrosius Amutenya Primary School on 20 July 2026.

The reflective bands are designed to improve children's visibility in low-light conditions, enabling motorists to spot pedestrians from a greater distance. The initiative aims to promote safer journeys to and from school while raising awareness of road safety.

Namdeb Chief Operating Officer Jurgen Jacob said the donation reflected the company's commitment to extending its safety culture beyond the workplace. "This commitment extends beyond the workplace into our communities. As the nation continues to experience an increase in pedestrian-related accidents, these reflector bands will play an important role in improving road safety by making children more visible to motorists on their way to and from school."
