The foundation “Kinder fördern – Zukunft stiften” reports a positive assessment at the halfway point of the ten-year Aussenkehr Volunteer Project.

Since 2020, the project has been a place of learning and exchange, where children, teachers, and volunteers from Germany and Namibia create opportunities together. The five-year anniversary was celebrated on 3 October 2025 at a stakeholder conference on Aussenkehr Farm. Among the guests were representatives from universities, the ||Kharas Regional Council, Stellenbosch University, the University of Namibia, the foundation “Kinder fördern – Zukunft stiften,” Aussenkehr Primary School, and guests from Germany.

“What has grown here over the past five years goes far beyond individual programs. It touches hearts and changes lives,” said Christian Neuber, founder of the foundation. So far, over 80 volunteers from Germany and Namibia have contributed, supporting countless children and opening new horizons through creative learning activities. Project manager Maike Reinhardt described the essence of the engagement: “Whether sewing their own aprons, performing in theater, or in crowded classrooms, the children discover their talents, gain confidence, and feel that their future is in their hands. Our German volunteers also experience a formative time: they develop a new understanding of community, patience, and cultural diversity, learn to be creative with limited resources, and reflect on their own society. These experiences shape them far beyond their stay in Aussenkehr and are the true success of our project.”

The Namibian Minister of Education also praised the commitment. For the anniversary newsletter, Sanet Steenkamp, MP, Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, sent a personal message under the headline “Midway with Purpose: A Message of Gratitude from the Minister,” stating: “Important are tangible actions and tangible results. That is exactly what this project delivers.” Special thanks were given to Susanna Kadhikwa and her team of 29 teachers, who have made Aussenkehr Primary School a shining example of educational work in the ||Kharas Region.
